Chuck Schorr Lesnick - Yonkers City Council President

Chuck is currently serving his first term as Council President, after being elected in 2005.  As City Council President, Chuck is dedicated to bringing accountability, transparency, ingenuity and honest leadership to Yonkers. Chuck works for a more open government of qualified professionals. He is dedicated to fixing wasteful government spending to help insure the future prosperity of The City of Yonkers.

Chuck Lesnick has a proven track record of getting things done for the people of Yonkers and will continue to work hard to bring his expertise in economic planning and development to bring positive change to our city of Yonkers.

Chuck's Academic and Professional Background

A highly qualified leader and planner, Chuck obtained a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Yale, a Masters in Urban & Regional Plan­ning from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public & International Affairs at Princeton and a J.D. from the NYU School of Law.

Since that time, Chuck Schorr Lesnick has served in government, working with many significant political leaders from Yonkers, New York and Westchester.  This includes working for former Governor Mario Cuomo, Congresswoman Nita Lowey, the City of Yonkers, and the United States Department of Housing & Urban Development.  As the Director of Economic Development for the City of Yonkers, Chuck fought to secure funds to begin the waterfront redevelopment and restoration of the historic downtown pier nearly 20 years ago.

In the mid 1990's Chuck took a break from government and entered the private sector, working as an executive with several property management and affordable housing development corporations. This experience benefits him in his current professional endeavors - in addition to serving as Council President, Chuck is a private practice lawyer in Yonkers specializing in Historic Façade Conservation Easement Deductions.  Through this work, he is able to improve the quality of communities by helping property owners of historic buildings to obtain tax deductions and other assistance to restore and/or maintain their properties.  To learn more about this work, visit the website (historicfacades.com).  Chuck also maintains a general practice in co-op and condo law, real estate transactions and commercial development.

Chuck the Family Man

Chuck will be the first to tell you that a major factor in his success has been the love and support of his family, who have stood by him during the ups and downs that accompanies a life spent in politics and public service.  Married for over 20 years, Chuck along with his wife  Dr. Beth Schorr-Lesnick, made the decision to move to Yonkers in the early 1980's and have since been active in numerous community activities.  Dr. Beth Schorr-Lesnick, a physician in solo practice in Yonkers, specializes in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine.  Dr. Lesnick is affiliated with St. John's Riverside Hospital, Dobbs Ferry Community Hospital and Montefiore Medical Center  Chuck and Beth are incredibly proud of their two daughters, Emily and Ariel - one who is enjoying her first year at college and the second who is soon to follow.
